Belgians make Mipim Awards again

Reed Midem, the organisers of Mipim, have just released the names of the finalists in this year’s highly prestigious Mipim Awards. Once again, as is almost customary, Belgian projects are well represented.
The jury reviewed over 228 entries from 45 countries and shortlisted the finest projects in each of the 11 competition categories. AG Real Estate CEO Serge Fautré continues to be a jury member. The Belgian representatives in the finals this year are as follows:

Best Healthcare Development
CHIREC Delta General Hospital Brussels, developed by the ‘Centre Hospitalier Interregional Edith Cavell’ (CHIREC) and designed by ASSAR Architects. This project will be competing against others from Denmark, Russia and Sweden.

Best Hotel and Tourism Resort
Red Cross Care Hotel, Zuienkerke, a development by the Red Cross Flanders and designed by POLO Architects. The hotel will be up against entries from France, Georgia and the USA.

Best Refurbished Building
The Cosmopolitan, Brussels. The developer here is Besix Real Estate Development (BESIX RED) with architecture by Bogdan & Van Broeck. The competition comes from Canada, France and the Netherlands.

Best Urban Project
Selected as a finalist in this category is a project which has already won many awards: Tivoli GreenCity, Brussels, by to which several architects have contributed including BEAI - Bureau d’Engineering & d’Architecture Industrielle, architectesassoc, Cerau, Atelier 55, Atlante, YY Architecture. Tivoli will have to beat off challenges from France, Poland and Russia.

The winners will be announced at the Mipim Awards ceremony on Thursday, 12 March at 6.30pm in the Grand Auditorium of the Palais des Festivals in Cannes. The winners will be selected by both MIPIM delegates voting in Cannes for projects of their choice and by the jury. The winners will be selected on a 50/50 basis combining delegates’ votes cast on-site and the jury’s own votes.
