Mipim – going strong at 30
Mipim opens its doors at the Palais des Festivals in Cannes today, for its 30th edition. On the agenda for the four days of the world’s largest real estate show are a focus on Proptech, a ‘Young Leaders Summit’, and a full range of conferences on every topic allied to real estate, cities, regions… Not least among the demonstrations of the importance of Mipim is the opening address by none other than former UN Secretary General Ban Ki-moon. The debates and presentations include the topics of sustainability, healthcare and housing needs in our cities, emerging trends in real estate and ‘post-brexit’ among many others. Belgium is again well represented with the ‘Surreal Estate’ pavilion and exhibition space for all three of the country’s regions.
Don't push the industry out of cities
Professor Mark Brearley speaks all over the world and lectures at the Metropolitan University of London. He inaugurated the 2019 sessions of the citydev/BSI (Brussels Studies Institute) inter-university chair, with a conference about the importance of maintaining productive activities, of industry, within a city. A crucial subject for citydev, which is behind many initiatives reintroducing ‘making things’ into Brussels.
Records tumble in Luxembourg
CBRE reveals in its latest Luxembourg market analysis that office take-up in the fourth quarter totalled a very active 89,400 m², bringing the annual volume to 250,000 m². This is one of the best years on record and the 5th consecutive year of +200,000 m² take-up. Overall, demand dynamics across the board are positive from healthy take-up and net absorption.

'Green Arch' wins Dubai 2020 Expo competition
The General Belgian Commission for International Exhibitions (BelExpo) has elected the 'Green Arch' as the winner of the competition for the Belgian pavilion for the 2020 universal exhibition in Dubai. The winning proposition is a joint effort by Besix with Assar Architects, Vincent Callebaut Architectures and Krafthaus. The name ‘Green Arch’ is easy to understand : the building is in the form of an arch and is covered with vegetation, bringing together scientific and engineering techniques with latest generation intelligent technologies. The concept behind the building, Besix points out, is ‘Smart & Green Belgium 2050’, and the intent is to give visitors a presentation of Belgium focusing on innovative mobility and its future.
