Brussels office market back on track
It seems the Brussels office market performed pretty well during the first half of 2016. Where take-up is concerned, the news appears to be excellent. The exceptional take-up of around 175,000 m² in the second quarter more than compensated for a sluggish first quarter and brought the first half total to 269,000 m². This is 88% above the same period in 2015. In terms of the number of deals, however, JLL says the picture is very different.

Favouring natural light
Guardian, who's range of products includes glass that reduces energy usage and increases comfort in buildings, to innovative automotive parts that improve fuel efficiency and enhance connectivity, recently moved into its new headquarters in Luxembourg. Belfius back with a new batch of ‘Smart Awards’
The concept known as ‘intelligent’ cities is more and more emerging as a response to the various challenges thrown up by the growth in urban populations. The Belfius Smart City Award, launched in 2015, was a pioneer in this domain in Belgium and opens the way to a resolutely ‘smart’ future for our cities. For its second edition, Belfius is extending the scope and is now addressing itself to companies, hospitals and schools.

The Walloon regulatory framework - Editions & Séminaires investigates
For its next seminar on September 22 in Louvain-la-Neuve, Editions & Séminaires (Laurence de Hemptinne) is turning its attention to the new regulatory framework in Wallonia. Just before the summer break, the Walloon government voted in a new decree bringing in a ‘Charter for Territorial Development (CoDT), to replace the previous charter which was called CWATUPE… The new charter represents the most important urban planning reform ever undertaken in Wallonia.

Atenor projects and finances on track
Developer Atenor recently released its half year results and gave an overview of the evolution of its current projects. CEO Stéphan Sonneville indicated that the business and its financing structure on both sides of the balance sheet, are very well balanced, with a mixture of sales and letting income, and operations in five regions and two main segments – offices and residential. At the half year, turnover stood at 53.5 million Euros, up from 46 million at the same point last year.

20,000 m² complex for European district?
Cofinimmo has also been busy during the summer period. It has purchased the office building located at the corner of the Avenue des Arts and the Rue Belliard in the heart of Brussels’ European district, and adjacent to the building located at 47-49 avenue des Arts, already in its possession. The acquired building has 11,516m² of office space, 921m² of archives and 128 underground parking spaces and is 83% occupied by several tenants.
