The development of the future Mediapark complex to be located on the site of the RTBF at Reyers has taken a step forward. The RTBF itself has just received the planning permit for the construction of its new headquarters building on the site.
This building will cost a total of around 191 million Euros, of which the majority (137 million) will be required for the construction and the rest for technological equipment. Works are now scheduled to start at the end of spring this year and finish during the first few months of 2022. There will follow a considerable period of fit-out, with the construction of studios, media production areas, newsrooms etc. The RTBF hopes to be able to move in and use the facilities during 2024, which will enable the current building to be demolished

The new building will extend to 38,000 m² across six upper floors, and architects MDW, working with Tractebel Engineering, have designed a largely glass-faced construction with terraces and interior gardens.

Mediapark is designed to be open to the public, and will include a large esplanade, residential accommodation, school facilities, offices, shops and public facilities, along with a large park. The office aspect is in particular designed to attract other companies working in the audiovisual domain.
