Ostend heritage building HANGAR 1 to be restored in its honor and glory by ION

The local authorities in Ostend have signed an agreement with project developer ION (Kristof Vanfleteren) to renovate ‘Hangar 1’, the protected but dilapidated port building located just outside the station. ION is undertaking its acquisition through Lion Investment. The city has leased the building for 27 years and is responsible for the completion of the building. In Hangar 1, Q Invest is investing in a microbrewery, a brasserie and a space for coworking. On the other side of the building is the ‘Hangar d'Amour’ with 30 prostitution units, a doctor's surgery and a police station. Works are scheduled to start in 2021.

ION has undergone strong growth over recent years. Last year, the company sold projects for a total of 200 million Euros, which makes it a top ten player in Belgium. The ambition is to rapidly move to 300 – 350 million Euros. The company currently has 70 projects in its portfolio worth 1.3 billion Euros.
