CityZen to be one of the new flagship buildings of downtown Brussels

The Centre Monnaie will have a new look in 2024, redesigned by a grouping of Belgian and Norwegian architects. The building will undergo a total renovation to transform it into a mixed–use complex with housings, offices and a hotel complex. The transformation of the exterior architecture will change the current closed character of the building and enable it to interact with its immediate surroundings.

In September 2019, the owners of the building – Immobel, Whitewood and DW Partners – launched an international architectural competition together with the Brussels Bouwmeester for the redevelopment of the 62,000 m² of the building located above ‘The Mint’ shopping centre recently renovated by AG Real Estate.

Five international teams of architects were selected from over 50 entries. The jury selected the design of Norwegian firm Snøhetta and Belgian firm Binst. The winning design differentiates itself by its respect for the architectural value of the existing building and its integration into the urban context. For this extensive urban renovation Snøhetta and Binst will be assisted by DDS+ and ADE.
The jury was made up of representatives from the Brussels-Capital Region, the City of Brussels, the Brussels Bouwmeester and owners Immobel and Whitewood.
