Ban Ki-moon,former UN Secretary General, will do the keynote speach for MIPIM openeing

Mipim opens its doors at the Palais des Festivals in Cannes today, for its 30th edition. On the agenda for the four days of the world’s largest real estate show are a focus on Proptech, a ‘Young Leaders Summit’, and a full range of conferences on every topic allied to real estate, cities, regions… Not least among the demonstrations of the importance of Mipim is the opening address by none other than former UN Secretary General Ban Ki-moon.
The debates and presentations include the topics of sustainability, healthcare and housing needs in our cities, emerging trends in real estate and ‘post-brexit’ among many others. There will of course be the Awards presentation on the Thursday evening, with the winners in each of the nine categories announced. This year is unusually quiet for Belgium in this respect, with just one property in our territory making it to the finals – a healthcare facility in Leuven (Gasthuisberg) by University Hospitals Leuven.

Belgium real estate showcase
Belgium is again well represented with the ‘Surreal Estate’ pavilion and exhibition space for all three of the country’s regions. Each region will also present its major projects during specific events along the week. On this website, we will keep you informed of what is making the news in Belgian real estate during the show, and of any other news which has repercussions for it.

Mipim is in many ways the model for other real estate shows, however more modest, and this year sees something new in Belgium. Firstly, ‘We Are Real Estate’ will take place at the Heyzel in May, with a format designed to be inclusive for all participating companies. Secondly, the new look Realty has moved from Tour & Taxis in Brussels to the Casino in Knokke on the Belgian coast. It will be interesting to see whether the gamble of organisers Artexis pays off.
